Sorry I've been under the radar lately.. But here's a comeback... with a song that's been growing on me lately. When I first saw the video, I thought (while listening to the "Damn, damn, damn..." ) that there's awful much in common between Avril and Kristen Stewart's manerism ...but since Avril's been around for a bit longer than KStew, then it kind of seems the latter is mimicing Avril rather than the other way around (or...? I'm confused..)
... As the song progressed, I actually had to conclude that Avril's acting is better than KStew- her crying is really convincing and moving, isn't it? The song is a bit tacky and mass-appeal but it's kind of nice to see Avril's growing up nicely and not being so "sk8ter girl" any more...and from certain camera angles she reminds me of the lead singer of the Cranberries

You might remember some time ago I had a post of another of her free labels and her DIY project- the apothecary labels on towels (which I used however on real apothecary bottles)?

But wait!!..There's more! She has tons, I repeat tons of freebies!!! I'm dowloading a dozen, even as we speak... (literally, I'm in the middle of it but I got so excited about the bank cheque labels, I just had to post them righ here, right now!!)

While making the previous post it occurred to me that the male in the puppy-love duet looks familiar and the name David Choi definitely sounds familiar. I remembered that last year (in my Twilight-period... yeah, I know) I had discovered again on YouTube a woderful cover of Cohen's "Halleluja" that he had made with another "trying-to-make-it" YouTube/MySpace songwriter/singer. The second guy's name is Chester See and I instantly became a fan. Let me show you why. For whatever reason (perhaps boredom...) I ended up browsing YouTube for different renditions/covers of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep... and I came across this interesting artist. Looking at her other videos brought smile to my face how she went through the different fazes of "making it" in this business- the cover songs, the puppy-love duet, and the more professional "official video" where she sounds and looks rather mainstream and sellable. But I guess that's the way to go- and she does sound nice (and looks very young). So, you go, girl!

After a long summer break from blogging, what a great way to start again! I came across this amazing leaf art by the Spanish artist Lorenzo Duran. Imagine the patience that goes into making these! He was inspired by the Chinese and Japanese paper-carving, аnd decided to try carving pressed and dried leaves from various trees. He likes best working with thick leaves and the crucial part of the process is to remove the sticker with the pattern after finishing all the carving.

Отдавна не бях посещавала симпатичния блог и онлайн магазин на DecorBox, и особено втория се оказа добре зареден с интересни неща. Първоначално имах намерението само да разгледам и да пусна пост с някои тяхни артикули, но в крайна сметка не ми се размина без да си поръчам 2-3 неща. Най-вече защото са изгодни като цена, пък и ми е люпобитно да опитам онлайн пазаруване в БГ за конкретно такива домакински/лайфстайл продукти.
Междувременно, нека да споделя какво му хвана окото- някои са интересни, но скъпи (не е критика, просто констатация), някои са ОК като съотношение цена/дизайн, а някои са направо евтини. Е, това е моята преценка и вкус, разгледайте и решете сами тук.

Скъпите:

Нека да започна с моята слабост- кокеши-кукли.

Но и тази подпора за книги и лампа ми харесаха:

Стикерите им за стена са с прилични цени, а и не винаги са стандартни като дизайн. Май повечето са тяхно производство. Ето този ми хвана окото и е към 16 лв:

Тази лампа (към 35 лв) и силиконовите мъфин форми (17-18 лв за 12 бр) също ми се сториха нескъпи, а и чайника с чаша (към 12 лв) е идеен за любителите на чай (аз съм на кафето, обаче):

Изгодните:

Е, тези вече си ги поръчах. Чантата за съхранение (към 7 лв) е тяхно собствено производство (много по-евтина от тези в ИКЕА, да видим като качество как ще е)

Тази сгъваема пазарска чантичка (за около 3-4 лв) беше в еко-раздела, така че може би е и от рециклиран материал, което е двоен плюс:

А тези готварски/сладкарски форми (за около 7 лв) не мога да ги пропусна и да не си ги взема:

Ами, това е засега. Поздравления за бизнеса- харесва ми като представяне (и като вкус), и аз имам нещо подобно предвид. :-)

You know how you sometimes repeatedly hear a song or a theme in commercials and TV programmes and you wish you knew who the performer was, only you don't know the song title or much about the song really, other than what you can catch from the lyrics... Anyway, thanks to the internet (and my excellent detective skills *ahem*), I managed to dig up one song I've been hearing for ages...And it turned out to be a cover version that is a 1 000 times better than the original! Check them out!

I know it's not the season for it, but I came to think about what the Danes call "kakkelovn". Technically, the term should be about the Swedish-style masonry heaters with porcelain tiles but in Danish it often also means the decorative cast iron heaters of the vintage type.
Зимата отмина, но днес незнайно защо ми дойде вдъхновението да се поровя за шведски зидани камини, облицовани с плочки и датски чугунени печки.

I absolutely adore the porcelain ones, though- I love looking at them in museums, especially the highly decorative kind, with blue motives, but I also wouldn't mind having the modern version that some Swedish houses and summerhouses have today- even in newly-built houses. Costs like hell but what a statement to have a piece like this in your house, wouldn't you agree?

Quick DIY project with clothes peg/Бърз хоби проект с щипка за пране

I've been seeing here and there on crafts blogs clothes pegs decoupaged with craft paper and I've been meaning to give it a try and see how such a project would look like in real life. Even better, after eating icecream with my kids and looking at the wood stick, it struck me that I could use it, too, and glue it on the clothes peg.

So, here are the two еnd results.
Разглеждайки разни хоби-блогове напоследък ми направи впечатление, че често фигурират дървени щипки за пране, "облицовани" с дизайнерски картон и реших да опитам и аз. Междувременно и след едно наскорошно похапване на сладолед на клечка със семейството, се загледах в дървената пръчица и ми хрумна да опитам да я декупирам и да я залепя за дървена щипка. Ето резултатите..

And here's the process:
Obviously, I bought some wood glue and cleaned the icecream stick and found one smaller peg. For the separate project with the decoupaged pegs I used bigger ones because it looks nicer.

Ето и стъпките/необходимите материали- една средна по големина дървена щипка, чиста пръчица от сладолед, лепило за дърво и декупажно лепило или Ц200. За другата част от проекта- щипката с декупаж- използвах по-голяма щипка за пране, защото стои по-добре.

I had earlier found online this great Japanese paper from Canon which can be printed out freely (check the collection here)

Наскоро бях открила онлайн на страницата на Canon eдна колекция от японска хартия, която може да се изпечати свободно и снимките са с добро качество.

Face down, I traced with a pen the stick and cut the piece out of the paper.
Отбелязах с химикал контурите на пръчицата върху обратната страна на хартията и изрязах.

And after gluing the paper onto the stick with some decoupage glue, and then two coats of it on top, this is how it looks like:

И след като залепих хартията върху дървото с декупажно лепило и лакирах с него 2 пъти отгоре, ето резултата...

I must say that working with plain print paper on wood is really cool- there is really good cohesion and after the second coat of decoupage glue on top of the paper, there's a nice shine and smoothness about it.

Трябва да споделя, че с хартията (обикновена принтерна хартия, не фото-хартия) се работи много добре върху дърво- залепва много добре (много по-добре от салфетка или дизайнерски картон според мен). А лакирането с лепило отгоре е по-добре да е 2 пъти, защото цветния принт попива първия слой много бързо. С втория се получава приятен гланц и почти не си личи, че става въпрос за нещо залепено.

And I did the same decoupage procedure with the same paper on some bigger wood clothes pegs. I think especially as a set they look rather cool- I can picture them on a rope holding different pictures, for example.

И същата процедура с декупажа и същата хартия я приложих на няколко по-големи дървени щипки- от двете страни. Ако се чудите за какво биха могли да се използват (освен както горната снимка, за защипване на бележка/визитка и прочие), представете си една конопена връв и на нея висящи снимки, окачени с такива щипки. Не е лошо като идея.

Remember the vintage apothecary labels I wrote about few days ago? Here's something-something I just did- like literally, just finished it. It was a total improv and I know I should have waited doing it (and taking pictures) till tomorrow for the benefit of a better lighting and all that- but I just couldn't wait :-)
Ако си спомняте, преди няколко дни пуснах пост за ретро-аптекарски етикети, които могат да се използват за хоби-проект. Буквално преди няколко минути завъртях една импровизация с тях и затова снимките изглеждат нетолкова добре на изкуствено осветление, но... просто не можах да се стърпя :-)

So, the background story is that I printed the labels the other day on a normal copy paper, to see what they look like before I use my canvas print paper (if I can find where it is..in some box somewhere). I printed the image twice actually- once as a full size A4, and once by chosing the option of fitting 2 images on one sheet of paper, so they came out a bit smaller. Anywho, today it hit me that I must have some old glass bottles with vitamines or kid's drops or something, that are long overdue for the trash can, so ...click-click, came the idea of making "vintage apothecary"-looking glass jars that can be used as vases, especially when grouped as 3 or more.
Предисторията е, че онзи ден изпечатах на обикновена хартия етикетите, за да видя как изглеждат и колко са големи. На една от изпечатките избрах опцията да се побират 2 образа на 1 лист, затова излязоха по-малки. Днес ми хрумна, че със сигурност ми е останалo някое шишенце от етерично масло или детски течни витамини, които са за изхвърляне, и че мога да ги рециклирам като мини-вазички, като им сложа от тези етикети. Мисля, че изпъкват много добре на кафявия цвят на стъклото и че в комбинация от 3-4 ще се получи добра композиция.

I feel silly explaining the steps because it might be obvious what needs to be done. You discard the plastic parts, wash the bottle and scrape the old label- some hot water helps and if there's still glue left, also some acetone-based product.

Не знам дали си заслужава да обяснявам подробно всички стъпки или се разбира от самосебе си. Хвърля се капачката и пласмасовия дозатор/тапа, а останалата пластмасова част се реже и маха. Етикетът се маха- накиснете, преди да отлепите или изстържете с нож, а ако има остатъци от лепилото, малко домакински спирт или ацетон/лакочистител ще реши проблема. И, естествено, шишенцето се измива добре отвътре.

Next, you decide what label fits best in terms of contrast against the colour of the glass but also size of the bottle. I used plain water-based glue, and put it on the back of the label- on the entire surface, and then stuck it on the glass. I am sure decoupage glue would be fine as well- I'm considering using some tomorrow over the label, as a varnish.

След това си избирате етикет- и като големина и като цвят, и намазвате с лепило обратната страна на етикета. Гледайте да няма празни места, а да е цялата повърхност. Аз използвах обикновено лепило на водна основа (като Ц200), но и с декупажно би трябвало да стане. След това се лепи лицево и тръгвайки от средата на етикета, с единия или двата показалеца, се натиска/приглажда етикета и се изважда въздуха между него и стъклото. Дори и да излезе лепило отстрани, не го чистете сега, а като изсъхне.

Not the best quality pic, but you get the idea. I'm picturing couple of more of these, with different labels, different sizes and variety of small flowers.

И това е идеята горе-долу. Умножена с 2 или 3, различни по големина шишенца, с различни на цвят етикети и различни цветенца ще стане нелоша комбинация.

I even managed to do 2 more bottles/labels in the same exercise. The big one is from vitamines and the small one- baby vitamin D drops. I used a label from the normal-size printout for the first one, and experimented with the smallest size of the small size printout for the second- but it might be too small... I think I might redo it, let's see how it looks after some time.
И същевременно, залепих и 2 етикета на едно шише от витамини и едно шишенце от детски капки (за първото използвах етикет от нормалната изпечатка, а за второто, най-малкия размер от малката изпечатка, но може би излезе трябваше да избера малко по-големичък... Ще видим дали трябва преработка, нека да отлежи няколко дни...)

Tolou Houses in China

This is amazing! These round earth houses called Тolou, built by the Hakkas in China between the 12th and 20 century were proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008, and no argument there- they are something, aren't they? Three to five stories high constructions of rammed earth, housing up to 80 families, they were built originally as a protection against bandits and warlords. I'm not usually big on fashion and models, but this 18 years old Australian model (of Serbo-Croatian origin) by the name of Andrej Pejic with increadible androgenous look is hard to miss...One really needs to take a second look at his pics, in order to make sure it's not a girl ...but also perhaps to envy secretely his feminine look (or as one blogger puts it "A guy can't be that pretty! It's just not fair!" LOL).

Anywho, apparently his career has really taken off this year, with an increasing number of magazine spreads and fashion show appearances for famous designers ( both female and male collections...smart...)- so, I guess we might be hearing more about him.

Не че се интересувам много от мода и модели, но този австралийски femiman (т.е. мъж с женски черти, или както гласи определението в urbandictionary : "момче/мъж, който често бива объркван за жена") има интересен андрогенен вид- което предполагам е в негов плюс по отношение на кариерата. Всъщност младежът е от бивша Югославия и майка му е eмигрирала в Австралия преди години с него. В момента той работи в Европа и се радва на нарастваща популярност сред известни дизайнери.

Utter Inn is an unusual hotel in the Swedish lake Malaren. The bedroom is located 3 m under the water, while the kitchenette/living area is above the water in what looks on the outside as a shed. Cool.
